Wavy kerbs meets London roads to promote cycling and slow cars
London Council have made the decision to install wavy kerbs as a new anti-car measure, which has left residents and business owners pretty angry!
The quaint 18th Century Georgian street in Islington follows the Low Traffic Neighbourhood (LTN) trend of getting cars off Britain’s roads, which has been redesigned and will also ban drivers in the mornings and early afternoon.
Islington Council went ahead with these re-designs to improve Charlton Place and Camden Passage in the Angel area of North London – even though nearly a quarter of local residents strongly disagreed with the plans.
The wavy kerbs are being constructed in order to force drivers to slow down in the area, as well as enabling a safer cycle route. Under the new plans for the road, traffic will be restricted between the hours of 8:15am to 9:15am and 3pm to 3:45pm Lorries weighing over 3.5 tons will also be banned from driving down the street.
