Green light for a giant wind farm off the North Wales coast!
The Awel y Mor project off the coast of Llandundo ranks as the biggest renewable energy infrastructure investment in Wales for more than a decade.
The project will be operational by 2030 and will provide enough electricity to power 500,000 homes with 50 giant turbines built to a height of over 330m. The 500MV project will also involve the construction of transmission infrastructure, including offshore substations and associated foundations.
This mammoth project will include offshore export cables to hook up to a new onshore substation and connect into the National Grid.
The development is being led by RWE, which also operates north Wales’ other offshore wind farms. RWE Project Lead for Awel y Mor, said: “We hope to secure our marine license in the coming months, plus carry out offshore site investigation on the seabed as we begin to finalise plans for construction.”
